WHY WE LOVE IT: William Floyd, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was born in the house in 1734. In 1976 William Floyd's great-great-granddaughter, Mrs. Cornelia Floyd Nichols, and her children donated the house to the National Park Service. From Memorial Day to Columbus Day, visitors can explore the estate grounds, including twelve outbuildings, the family cemetery, and 613 acres of forest, fields, marsh, and trails.
