Flora and Fauna at Desa Hay

Desa Hay is a living ecosystem; the wildlife you see and hear is part of our resolve to preserve nature in Bali.

Birds of Desa Hay

A variety of tropical birds can be seen and heard throughout Desa Hay. The  birds busily gather grasses and leaves for building nests or feast on insects and nectar among the trees.

Tokay Gecko

You may hear a rhythmic "tok-kay" call. This belongs to the Tokay Gecko, a common and harmless resident of Balinese gardens often considered a sign of good luck.

The Garden Ecosystem

Our lush gardens are designed with native flora to attract a wide array of butterflies and tropical pollinators. The rustle of wind through palm fronds and vegetation provides a constant, natural background to your stay.

Toga, our rescue turtle can be found perched on her favourite flat rock beneath the Three Faces water feature.  She is the stoic, sun-warmed survivor—representing harmony between nature and art. Turtles are considered good luck, sacred, and symbols of wisdom, longevity, and balance in Bali.
